About this Opportunity
Provide essential help to park staff by caring for park buildings and grounds. Duties include a wide range of tasks based on interests and skills, both inside and outside in all seasons. Volunteers may be asked to work as part of a team and/or individually. Work around the park involves a wide range of equipment and volunteers may be asked to use equipment. Appropriate training will be provided prior to using any equipment.
Duties may include:
- Collecting trash and other litter
- Clearing leaves and other tree droppings from parking lots and sidewalks
- Clearing out plantings and flower beds as appropriate to the season
- Mowing, trimming, or edging
- Cleaning and restocking bathrooms
- General repairs including painting, carpentry, etc.
- Notifying park staff regarding maintenance concerns, or emergency/unusual situations
Volunteers may be assigned special projects based on specialized skills (electrician, plumber, mason, carpenter, mechanic, etc.)
Requirements:
- Wear provided volunteer uniform items
- Wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and other applicable personal protective equipment
- Complete necessary training before operating any park equipment
- Must be able to safely operate and control and clean golf cart type vehicles.
- Must be able to safely operate and control a zero turn mower
- A valid driver’s license is required.
The volunteer will get on-the-job training in park operations, workplace safety, and will be provided with the necessary PPE (personal protective equipment), and associated tools and equipment to complete the required work.
Physical Efforts
You must be mentally aware of surrounding conditions while physically doing work. Exertion of heavy physical effort may be required in such tasks as lifting and carrying objects weighing over 60 pounds. There may be periods when you do considerable standing, bending, kneeling, and stretching.
Working Conditions
Subject may work outside/inside for long periods and be subject to unpleasant odors, dust, high temperatures and humidity. You may be subject to grease, dirt, dust, soiling of clothing and skin surfaces, noise vibrations, fumes. You may be subject to discomfort from wearing personal protective equipment for long periods.
Minimum commitment:
Open schedule based on need.
