About this Opportunity

Volunteers provide information and visitor services working as a guide at the Statue of Liberty. If you like to meet new and interesting people than this is the spot for you! The Statue of Liberty National monument receives just under four million vistors per year from all over the world. Visitors come to learn about the culture, history, environment and for recreation purposes.

Duties include:

  • Information Center Volunteer: Operates information center on Liberty Island by providing information to park visitors and handing out park publications and other written materials. Assists with Lost & Found Property Reports.
  • Ferry Dock Orientation Volunteer: Welcomes arriving visitors to Liberty Island. Provides answers to visitor questions about their visit.
  • Roving Information Volunteer: Provides information to park visitors as they rove the walkways of Liberty Island. Alerts Park Rangers of any problems that arise from the visiting public or any hazard they may encounter.

  • Additional information:

  • All volunteers must complete and pass a background check, have two forms of government issued I.D.,wear their provided National Park Service I.D. badge, and submit to security checks before boarding vessels.
  • Volunteers must be able to deal with a high volume of visitors from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds with tact and courtesy.
  • A volunteer is an unpaid position.
  • We do not provide housing of any kind but can provide advice on finding housing in New York City.
  • As of October 28th 2011, the Statue and pedestal are closed for safety upgrades; there will be no access for volunteers inside the structure and through the exhibit. Please be aware that most duties are currently performed outside with prolonged periods of standing.
