About this Opportunity
Volunteer Description
Make a lasting contribution by assisting with the organization and management of historical records for current and future generations. Supervised by the Park Historian, the volunteer will assist in the creation of a reference section in the park library based on the park’s archive, and help with library resources circulation. This position will provide crucial support to enhance exploration and access to historical records by staff and utilize these records to respond to research requests. Currently, our records are utilized for various purposes from scholarly academic research to researching family history and historic structures. We will work openly with interns to meet their interests and learning needs. A background investigation must be conducted per Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 and the Department of Interior Regulations. The cost of the background check is paid by the park. This position is unpaid.
Tasks

Scan archives and create an organized system in which employees can access these archives.

Assist with the operation of the library collection: providing resources to employees at various locations and acting as a research assistant with library collections.

Transcription and digitization of history records.
Requirements

Education or experience in Library Sciences, Public History, or a related field.

Experience with managing library circulation systems.

Online research skills.

Basic clerical and computer skills.

Strong organizational skills and a close attention to detail.

Volunteers may be bending and lifting frequently, and should be able to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
