OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech STEM startup using open source technology, data, and community-driven innovation to reimagine governance, strengthen transparency, and empower citizen participation across Africa.
We work with citizens, policymakers, researchers, and technologists to foster open governance models that empower communities, reduce corruption, and create equitable development opportunities. As a new startup, we are seeking Policy Researcher Volunteers to provide evidence-based insights that guide OpenGov Africa’s advocacy, programs, and decision-making. As a policy researcher, you will help generate knowledge and analysis on governance, civic tech, and citizen participation across Africa.
This role is ideal for researchers passionate about governance, policy analysis, and data-driven social impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Research: Conduct research on governance, transparency, civic engagement, and open data in Africa.
- Policy Analysis: Produce briefs, reports, and recommendations to inform programs and advocacy.
- Data Gathering: Collect, analyze, and interpret policy data and governance indicators.
- Knowledge Sharing: Present findings in easy-to-understand formats for policymakers and citizens.
- Collaboration: Work with advocacy and strategy teams to align research with campaigns.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Support in measuring impact and progress of advocacy initiatives.
Qualifications
- Background or interest in public policy, political science, economics, or social sciences.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus.
- Passion for governance, transparency, and accountability.
Expected Requirements
- Time Commitment: Approx. 6-8 hours per week (flexible, remote).
- Commitment Period: Minimum 6 months preferred.
- Remote Work: Must have reliable internet access.
