Local grannies in Bristol, Southington and Plainville are in need of friendly visitors, readers, mail assistants and if you are up for it an occassional guided walk or community outing. You can turn your free time into a meaningful connection and it only takes an hour or two a week.

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

desire to help others; pleasant demeanor; good reading/speaking voice; reading skills; organizational or planning abilities; good driving record; clear criminal history; two references; access to a car with proof of insurance; a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.

These folks are low vision or legally blind and still living in the community but due to vision loss, they are somewhat isolated. There is no personal care or medication management involved, just being a friendly neighbor.

You must be in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York or Massachusetts, there is no relocation, passport, Visa or stipend available.
