About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.
Role Overview
We are seeking Volunteer Real Estate Developers to advise and support MAP’s housing-related initiatives. This role will involve guiding affordable housing and community development projects that align with our mission of providing stability and opportunity for youth and families. The ideal candidate has experience in real estate development, finance, or urban planning and is eager to apply their expertise to socially impactful projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance on affordable housing and community development projects
- Assist in evaluating project feasibility, financing options, and risk assessments
- Support the preparation of development proposals, budgets, and timelines
- Advise on compliance with NYC and NYS housing regulations and incentive programs (LIHTC, Article XI, 420-a, HPD programs)
- Collaborate with MAP’s leadership, legal advisors, and community partners on real estate strategies
- Contribute to long-term planning for housing initiatives that serve families experiencing housing instability
Requirements
- Experience in real estate development, affordable housing, finance, or related field
- Knowledge of development processes, financing structures, and regulatory requirements
- Strong analytical and project management skills
- Ability to communicate complex real estate concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Commitment to MAP’s mission of equity, housing justice, and youth empowerment
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with NYC housing finance and regulatory environment
- Experience with nonprofit or community-based development projects
- Established relationships with developers, lenders, or public agencies
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices and community development strategies
