Volunteer Position Purpose:
To engage with children who are siblings of patients by creating a nurturing environment and supporting a variety of activities; also, to engage with families in the lobby areas of the Children’s Pavilion.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Welcome children to the Ronald McDonald House Sibling Center and engage them in age-appropriate activities; activities might include talking, listening, reading, art, games, and comforting/rocking
Take the 'Activity Cart’ from the Sibling Center out on its designated route to offer takeaway craft bags and assist children in making the crafts
Volunteers may also assist by organizing materials, stocking supplies for activities, cleaning toys, and cleaning up after activities
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Must have a caring attitude and the ability to work patiently with a variety of ages.
Must be comfortable interacting with individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities
Must be able to communicate well with children and adults.
Prior experience with children, personally or professionally, is preferred.
Must be willing to represent Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond while serving onsite at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
Time Commitment:
Volunteers must commit to one regular, weekly shift of 2-3 hours.
Other Information:
Volunteers are required to complete onboarding/training with RMHC Richmond and VCU Health
Volunteers must successfully complete a Criminal Background Check and T-Spot Test (Tuberculosis Screening).
Face masks covering the mouth and nose are required in specific parts of the hospital.
Beginning in November, volunteers must have proof of Flu Vaccination on file with VCU Health Volunteer Services.
Must be comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time. Ability to lift/carry items that are at least 25 pounds.
