About this Opportunity

Title

The Social Media Manager serves as an embedded specialist within a specific social media platform, managing day-to-day operations and rapid response for Project 2029's digital presence. This role reports to the Communications Chief of Project 2029.

Purpose

Building and maintaining Project 2029's social media presence through platform-specific expertise, rapid response capabilities, and consistent engagement with supporters and interested parties on assigned social channels.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages daily operations for assigned social media platform (Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Provides rapid response to breaking news, organizational updates, and community engagement opportunities
  • Creates platform-specific content that maximizes reach and engagement within channel best practices
  • Monitors and responds to comments, messages, and mentions in real-time
  • Coordinates with Deputy Social Media Assistant and Digital team for cross-platform messaging
  • Shares vetted Project 2029 policies and organizational messages through platform-optimized formats
  • Flags trending topics, viral content, and engagement opportunities relevant to Project 2029's mission
  • Builds follower base and community engagement through consistent, authentic interaction

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Digital native with deep familiarity of assigned social media platform
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to adapt voice/tone for different audiences
  • Experience managing social media accounts with demonstrated growth and engagement
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with remote team members
  • Strong understanding of current social media trends, algorithms, and best practices
  • Available for rapid response during peak engagement hours for assigned platform

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, native platform analytics)
  • Background in progressive politics, policy advocacy, or grassroots organizing
  • Experience with content creation (graphics, video editing, copywriting)
  • Understanding of crisis communication and online reputation management
  • Ability to commit 10-15 hours per week to platform management

Time Commitment

This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 10-15 hours per week, with flexibility for rapid response during high-engagement periods and organizational announcements.
