Volunteer Position Purpose:
To engage with families at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (downtown) by providing hospitality, food access, activities, and support services.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will manage the Ronald McDonald House space by greeting and assisting families, coordinating laundry room usage, assisting with activities, restocking snacks and coffee, light housekeeping (tidying the space, putting away items left out), etc.
Volunteers may run the Hospitality Cart by handing out age-appropriate activity packs and snacks to patients and families on the inpatient pediatric floor.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Ability to work with a diverse group of families including families going through trauma, a high stress time, and the grieving process
Friendly, outgoing, caring, as well as non-judgmental and accepting
Excellent understanding of and ability to follow professional and personal boundaries
Comfortable volunteering in a medically intensive pediatric service area
Good communication skills, ability to communicate with adults and children
Prior experience with children, personally or professionally, preferred
Must be willing to represent Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond while serving onsite at VCU Health
Placement must be approved by staff of both VCU Health and RMHC
Time Commitment:
Volunteers must commit to a weekly shift of three hours between the hours of 9:00am and 9:00pm Monday-Sunday.
Other Information:
Volunteers are required to complete onboarding/training with RMHC Richmond and VCU Health
Volunteers must successfully complete a Criminal Background Check and T-Spot Test (Tuberculosis Screening).
Face masks covering the mouth and nose are required in specific parts of the hospital.
Beginning in November, volunteers must have proof of Flu Vaccination on file with VCU Health Volunteer Services.
Must be comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time. Ability to lift/carry items that are at least 25 pounds.
