A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City and operating fully remote. Our mission is to empower children diagnosed with cancer by helping them explore and express themselves through the arts. From music and painting to writing and acting, we provide creative outlets that support emotional healing, resilience, and personal growth.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and creative Video Editor (Volunteer) to join our Multimedia Department. This role is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling through video and who is looking to build on their editing experience while contributing to a meaningful cause. You will work alongside various teams to create impactful digital content that supports our programs, fundraising initiatives, and external communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit short-form and long-form video content for social media, the AFB website, and partner platforms
- Collaborate with team leads to develop concepts and translate messaging into video formats
- Cut and organize raw footage, add motion graphics, and apply visual and sound effects as needed
- Create text overlays, title cards, and branded animations
- Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine and finalize content
- Manage and maintain organized project files using AFB's shared drive systems
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in video editing or post-production (internships or freelance work welcome)
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and other Adobe Creative Suite tools
- Strong sense of narrative pacing, transitions, and storytelling through visuals
- Understanding of color correction, audio mixing, and branding consistency
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
Preferred but Not Required
- Familiarity with motion graphics or animation workflows
- Experience with basic sound editing and image correction
- Background in visual design, illustration, or photo retouching
Additional Information
- This is a remote, volunteer position requiring a minimum three-month commitment
- Weekly time commitment is 5–10 hours with flexibility to accommodate your schedule
- Candidates must have a reliable internet connection and be available for two weekly video check-ins
