Friendly Visitor Volunteer – RSVP Norfolk County

Location: Nursing homes and assisted living facilities within Norfolk County

Schedule: 1–2 hours per week (flexible, daytime hours)

Reports to: RSVP Norfolk County Volunteer Coordinator and onsite manager

Overview:

RSVP Norfolk County seeks Friendly Visitor Volunteers to provide companionship to residents in local nursing homes who may have limited mobility or social contact. Must have flu vaccine and COVID booster. A Zoom or in person interview and CORI background check is required for this volunteer role.

Responsibilities

• Visit an assigned resident weekly for conversation and companionship.
• Engage in light social activities based on the resident’s interests.
• Accompany residents outdoors on facility grounds when weather and safety allow.
• Maintain confidentiality and communicate any concerns to staff.
• Follow all facility and RSVP volunteer policies.

Qualifications

• Compassionate, reliable, and respectful of older adults.
• Comfortable engaging with individuals who use wheelchairs or have physical limitations.
• Good communication and listening skills.
• Must complete RSVP Norfolk County’s orientation and background check.
• Minimum age: 18.
