Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, creative expression, and community partnerships, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to thrive.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Volunteer/Onboarding Coordinator to support MAP’s volunteer recruitment and integration processes. This role is essential in ensuring that new volunteers feel welcomed, prepared, and connected to MAP’s mission. The ideal candidate is highly organized, people-centered, and passionate about building community through volunteer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for new volunteer applicants
- Guide volunteers through the onboarding process with professionalism and warmth
- Collect and maintain accurate volunteer records, agreements, and documentation
- Coordinate orientation sessions and trainings in collaboration with HR and program staff
- Match volunteers with appropriate roles based on skills and interests
- Ensure compliance with MAP’s policies and confidentiality standards
- Track onboarding progress and prepare regular updates for leadership
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple onboarding processes simultaneously
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Calendar)
- Compassion, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse applicants
- Passion for mission-driven, equity-focused work
Preferred Skills
- Experience in volunteer coordination, HR, or nonprofit program support
- Familiarity with onboarding, recruitment, or training practices
- Background in education, community engagement, or nonprofit organizations
Commitment
- Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Fully remote with occasional virtual meetings
