About this Opportunity

The Preventative Search and Rescue Initiative Inc. (PSAR Initiative) is a BRAND NEW 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on preventing injuries and deaths in the outdoors through education and outreach. We are building our first online presence and need help from someone who understands how different social media platforms work.

We currently have no social accounts established and no one on our team has experience with LinkedIn, Instagram, or X (Twitter). We need a volunteer who can explain the pros and cons of each platform, recommend which ones make sense for our mission, and, once decided, help set them up and prepare a simple posting plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluate which platforms fit our goals and audience
  • Set up official PSAR Initiative pages on the selected platforms
  • Walk us through login, admin, and security setup
  • Help outline a basic content plan (topics, frequency, tone)
  • Recommend simple posting tools and document the process for us

Who you are

  • Experience creating and managing social media for a nonprofit or small business
  • Comfortable teaching beginners in plain language
  • Reliable, organized, and good communicator
  • Bonus if you have interest in hiking, outdoor safety, or community education

Commitment

  • Remote volunteer role
  • Flexible schedule, about 5–10 hours total for evaluation and setup
  • Occasional follow-up questions by email or Zoom

Why join

  • Help shape the first digital voice of a new national nonprofit
  • Great portfolio credit for social media strategy and setup
  • Make a direct contribution to outdoor safety education

To apply

  • Send a short note about your social media experience and one example of a page or campaign you’ve built or managed.
