About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Volunteer Program Director to oversee the design, coordination, and delivery of MAP’s programs. This role will ensure that MAP’s mentorship, academic enrichment, and social-emotional learning initiatives are high-quality, impactful, and aligned with our mission. The Program Director will collaborate closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners to expand services and measure outcomes that support students and families experiencing housing instability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for MAP’s mentorship, education, and enrichment programs.
  • Design and refine program models, curriculum, and resources.
  • Recruit, train, and support program staff and volunteers.
  • Establish clear goals, track outcomes, and ensure continuous program improvement.
  • Collaborate with schools, shelters, and community organizations to strengthen partnerships.
  • Ensure all programs are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and equitable.
  • Coordinate program budgets, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to MAP leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in program management, education, youth development, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and team management skills.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate impactful programs.
  • Experience working with underserved youth and/or families facing housing instability.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit operations and community-based programming.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and equity in education.

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of NYC education systems, housing services, or youth development networks.
  • Experience with program evaluation and impact reporting.
  • Grant or donor reporting experience.

What You’ll Gain

  • Leadership experience directing programs for a growing nonprofit.
  • Collaboration with a passionate, mission-driven team.
  • Opportunities to design innovative programming that impacts vulnerable youth.
  • Letters of recommendation and professional references for future opportunities.
