About this Opportunity

This training is a free 12 hour/six week educational program for family and friends that are caring for individuals with dementia living in the community. The Maine Savvy Caregiver Program builds on attitude, skills and knowledge. Attitude: The caregiver develops a sense of confidence in their caregiving role and they learn a lot about self-care. Skills: Caregivers learn tips and strategies for interacting and communicating with the person that has dementia and to understand and manage their challenging behaviors. Knowledge: Caregivers learn what dementia is and how it affects the person and their behavior. To become a Savvy Caregiver Associate trainer you'll observe the six week class, attend a training to learn how to teach the class, co-train the class with a Master Trainer and teach the class under the supervision of a Master Trainer (observation and consultation).

In addition, the trainer will be responsible for promoting the class in their area with the help of the Master Trainer, who will provide the flyers and brainstorm locations and providers to advertise the training.

When offering the training, the trainer will spend approximately 5 - 6 hours per week for the six weeks. A trainer may offer approximately1 - 2trainings per year.
