About this Opportunity
The Caf Support volunteer is responsible for supporting the Community Cafe at the Durgin Center through the completion of various tasks. Volunteers will have a task specialty assigned to them and will be cross trained to provide back up support to other areas of the kitchen operation. The Community Caf team will work together to provide a safe and sanitary environment for food service while providing a warm and welcoming Caf environment for our community to come enjoy a nutritious meal and great socialization. Volunteers are encouraged to serve in a capacity that is enjoyable and utilizes their own skillsets.
Days needed:
Monday 10:45am - 1:30pm
Thursday 10:45am - 1:30pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kitchen Server- This volunteer will be responsible to greet Birch Stream Farms upon delivery of the catered meal. The volunteer will receive the food, support set up of the food, serving wear and plates. The kitchen server will follow safe food handling protocols to ensure the wellbeing of the diners. The kitchen server will plate food per the designated portion sizes provided by Birch Stream Farms. After food service is completed, this volunteer will break down the serving area and sanitize the station per protocols. Kitchen Servers will wear proper personal protective equipment to ensure the hygienic handling and service of food, to include, hair and beard coverings, apron and gloves.
Bread Prep- This volunteer will warm the bread for the caf utilizing the natural gas stove in accordance with procedure. Once warmed, the Bread Prep volunteer will slice each loaf into 5 equal servings and plate in preparation for the Dining Room Servers to deliver to the diners. The Bread Prep volunteer will wear proper personal protective equipment to ensure the hygienic handling and service of food, to include, hair and beard coverings, apron and gloves.
Milk Prep- This volunteer will pour milk from a gallon container per the designated portion sizes provided in preparation for the Dining Room Servers to deliver to the diners. The Milk Prep volunteer will wear proper personal protective equipment to ensure the hygienic handling and service of food, to include, hair and beard coverings, apron and gloves.
Dining Room Server- This volunteer will take plated meals from the kitchen to the dining room via a Caf cart and serve the diners. The Dining Room Server will refill water pitchers, assist diners as needed, bus tables at the end of the meal and sanitize tables and chairs at the end of the Caf. The Dining Room Servers will wear proper personal protective equipment to ensure the hygienic handling and service of food, to include, hair and beard coverings, apron and gloves.
Dishwashers- This role will be covered by 2 separate volunteers. One Dishwasher will handle the scraping and rinsing of plates and placing them in racks and into the dishwasher in accordance with dishwasher use protocols. The second Dishwasher will handle the clean dishes when they come out of the dishwasher. Dishes will be inspected for cleanliness, dried and put away in their appropriate spaces. Dishwashers will wear proper personal protective equipment to ensure the hygienic handling and service of food, to include, hair and beard coverings, apron and gloves.
Registrations and Reservations- This volunteer will be trained to retrieve voice messages from the agency phone system and return all calls to consumers in accordance with procedure. The volunteer will also be trained in the Wellsky database used at EAAA in order to conduct the registration process for interested consumers. The volunteer will also be trained in using the agency Google calendar to make reservations for each consumer. All information gathered is considered confidential and will be protected as such. Conversations will be handled in a professional and courteous manner.
