Volunteer Opportunity: Registrar for Community Cafs
Help Bring Community and Connection to Older Adults in Southern Maine!
Organization: Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA)
Location: Various locations across Cumberland and York Counties, ME
Commitment: 6 months, ongoing
Schedule: Day of the Community Caf event (varies by site)
About SMAA:
At the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, we empower older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers to live to their fullest potential. Join our mission to support community connection and wellness across Southern Maine!
Our Community Cafesare available throughout Cumberland and York counties and provide participants aged 60 and over with an opportunity to socialize with other attendees while enjoying a delicious and nutritious lunch. Some Community Cafs also offer entertainment (such as bingo, games, and musical acts) or educational opportunities (such as speakers and resource tables).
Role Overview Registrar for Community Cafes:
As a Registrar for Community Cafes, you will help connect older adult guests to the event each month by: managing reminder calls, check in, and being a friendly welcoming greeter at the Cafe!
Key Responsibilities:
- Make reminder calls to past participants (by phone or using call software)
- Manage RSVPs and check in participants the day of the Cafe
- Collect and organize new participant registration forms
- Record attendance and submit forms to the Site Lead
Time and Location:
- Approximately 2 hours/month; day and time depending on Cafe location - a full list of Cafe locations and schedules can be found here
- Reminder calls can be made from home!
- There is a particular need at our Yarmouth Meal Site:Yarmouth Community Center 20 Mill St, Yarmouth: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 11:30am
Ideal Volunteer Qualities:
- Friendly and comfortable working with older adults
- Able to stand for short periods of time
- Basic comfort with making phone calls and simple data entry
