About this Opportunity

STEPMC is a nonprofit organization that seeks to walk alongside people until they have overcome poverty. Founded in 2010, we serve McPherson County residents who are living below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

STEPMC does things differently than most non-profits. STEPMC believes that responsibility for both poverty and prosperity rests not only in the hands of individuals, but also with societies, institutions, and communities. Many organizations working with poverty offer concrete resources (e.g. food, clothing, rent assistance, etc.). While incredibly important, STEPMC believes that financial and physical resources are not the only resources needed to overcome poverty. Instead of giving people a fish (offering concrete resources), we seek to learn how to fish together, thereby providing a long-term solution to poverty. Our progressive model entails forming a community around those in our program, fostering connections, and creating pathways of opportunity and success. Our organization works closely with other local non-profits to provide a holistic response to the complex issue of poverty.

Families and individuals enroll in our training to build financial, emotional, and social resources as well as an economic stability plan that sets goals unique to their own needs and dreams. These families then enter into a year and a half intentional friendship with community members who support their efforts to achieve economic stability.

The STEPMC Organizational Development VISTA will be given the opportunity to interact in every aspect of STEPMC¿s work and provide insight regarding how to develop and improve the organization. Responsibilities will range from marketing to program creation to community engagement to leadership, to savvy business practices. We seek someone who is highly motivated to learn, help us grow, and make an immediate difference in the lives of people in poverty.
