About
Literacy Source is a non-profit community-learning center in Seattle providing free instruction to nearly 800 adults annually from underserved populations. Our mission is to build a literate community and promote self-sufficiency by providing learner-centered instruction in English literacy and basic life skills. Literacy Source encourages and celebrates life-long learning and works to create a society that understands and supports the needs of adult learners. Our center provides instructional support to a diverse populations of students including native English speakers, immigrants, and refugees.
Mission Statement
Literacy Source offers free instruction, including one-on-one tutoring, to low-income adults in the King County area. Our instruction is tailored to individual student needs and skill levels. At Literacy Source we believe that all adults can improve their basic skills in reading, writing, math and ESOL and that community volunteers, trained and supported by professional staff, can effectively facilitate this improvement. We encourage and celebrate the challenge of developing the habit of independent, life-long learning.
