Organization Description: Build, RVA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit makerspace community in Richmond, VA, dedicated to providing affordable access to tools, resources, and knowledge. We support entrepreneurs, creators, makers, and inventors by connecting them with a community of science-based innovators and artists in an environment where ideas become reality.

Volunteer Position Description & Purpose: We're seeking a friendly and organized volunteer to assist with class planning, class scheduling, volunteer engagement and organization, and developing and implementing new classes. Your role is essential to enhancing our member and community experience, streamlining operations, and ensuring clear communication within our vibrant community.

Director Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with volunteers to develop classes and programs
  • Develop and maintain list of classes and teachers
  • Schedule classes for each month & post to online calendar
  • Ensure that there is a minimum of 1 orientation class for each area of the space where it is required
  • Onboard new teachers and review class outlines
  • Streamline process from class development to implementation
  • Monitor class sign ups and alert teachers / student of class changes
  • Collect data from class members to improve programming operations
  • Collect statistics on class usage and signups
  • Record and request finances needed for purchasing of class materials and supplies as needed

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent management and planning skills
  • Background or interest in human resources and community engagement recommended
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse personality types.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and platforms (Slack, Nexudus, email, Google aps, etc.).

Time Commitment:

  • Commitment: 8-10 hrs/week. No upper limit on commitment.

  • Hours submitted and verified via internal Google form.
  • Onsite orientation and training provided by the Board of Directors.
  • Recommended attire is casual.
  • Parking available directly in front of the building.
  • Directors will have full access to the facility, equipment, classes, and community.
