Organization Description: Build, RVA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit makerspace community in Richmond, VA, dedicated to providing affordable access to tools, resources, and knowledge. We support entrepreneurs, creators, makers, and inventors by connecting them with a community of science-based innovators and artists in an environment where ideas become reality.
Volunteer Position Description & Purpose: We're seeking a friendly and organized person to assist with onboarding new volunteers, coordinating volunteers among departments, applying volunteer benefits, developing new ways to attract and retain volunteers. Build is 100% volunteer operated, so your role is essential to enhancing our member and community experience, streamlining operations, and ensuring clear communication within our vibrant community.
Director Duties & Responsibilities:
- Log and manage volunteer list
- Generate and disseminate volunteer calendar
- Update volunteer accounts with benefits once a week
- Coordinate and perform volunteer onboarding
- Coordinate volunteer work with different departments
- Check on volunteer efforts of different departments
- Track volunteer hours and work
- Determine where volunteers are needed and recruit volunteers
- Communicate with volunteers via slack and email
- Develop new ways to integrate volunteers into Build operations
- Develop new ways to attract and retain volunteers
- Draft and distribute volunteer newsletter
Qualifications, Skills & Requirements:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent management and planning skills
- Background or interest in human resources and community engagement recommended
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse personality types
- Comfortable using digital tools and platforms (Slack, Nexudus, email, Google aps, etc.)
Time Commitment:
- Commitment: 8-10 hrs/week. No upper limit on commitment.

Additional Information:
- Hours submitted and verified via internal Google form.
- Onsite orientation and training provided by the Board of Directors.
- Recommended attire is casual.
- Parking available directly in front of the building.
- Directors will have full access to the facility, equipment, classes, and community.
