About this Opportunity
Opportunity Overview:
Appleton Farms consists of rolling grasslands, grazing livestock, stone walls, vegetable crops, and historic farm buildings, offering a rare glimpse into New England’s agricultural past. We have a robust educational platform, including: field study for school and youth groups, summer camp, public programs and cooking classes for adults and kids, and year-round festivals and special events. Appleton Farms is currently recruiting schools & youth education volunteers to lead or assist education programs for schools, scout groups, home school groups, after school groups and other elementary-aged curriculum-tied programs. Volunteers will lead groups utilizing Appleton Farms lesson plans taught to them by experienced education staff. Projects in curriculum development also available.
Reports to: Youth Programs Manager
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Lead or assist education programs for schools, scout groups, home school groups, after school groups and other elementary-aged curriculum-tied programs
- Assist with curriculum development
- Communicate effectively with staff and other volunteers
- Adhere to The Trustees safety protocols
- Log volunteer hours
Qualifications:
- Have excellent communication skills
- Friendly and outgoing personality
- Have reliable transportation to the Farm
- Enjoy working with people
- Ability to work independently with staff near by
- Minimum age: 18 years old.
- Please note: A background check may be required for this role
Time Commitment:
Position requires flexible schedule with interest in occasional education volunteer opportunities as they arise. Schedule is unpredictable due to the nature of how many of these types of programs are scheduled. Time commitment is flexible and varies, with peak seasons in fall and spring. Position will be managed and overseen by Youth Programs Manager
