About this Opportunity

Opportunity Overview:

Appleton Farms, a 1,000+ acre working farm and farm-based education center, was established in 1638 by the Appleton Family and gifted to The Trustees in 1998. The CSA grows vegetables using organic practices for summer and winter CSAs pickups. We also maintain a 2-acre pick your own field with flowers and herbs for our shareholders that we need help maintaining.

If you have a passion for gardening or just love to be outdoors, we would love your help as a volunteer in the CSA Garden! This position is perfect for someone who enjoys garden work or likes being active outside. Our staff will work alongside volunteers to determine garden needs and priorities. Volunteers will work as a team on Wednesdays 8am-10am. 

Reports to: CSA Manager and CSA Distribution Manager

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
  • Working with staff to assess gardening needs to help maintain our CSA picking fields
  • Pulling weeds in the flower and herb beds by hand or with hand tools
  • Planting and pruning as needed
  • Adhere to The Trustees safety protocols
  • Sign up online here for Volunteer Shifts  
Qualifications:
  • Able to use hand tools
  • Dress in appropriate clothes and footwear
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and ability to bend
  • Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces including grass or uneven surfaces  
  • Minimum age: 16 years old
  • Please note: a background check is required for this role

Time Commitment Needed:
Sign up for one week at a time, or commit to the full season! The group will meet on Wednesdays from 8:00 to 10AM starting June 18th and ending August 27th. Volunteers should meet us in front of the CSA barn at the start time.
