About this Opportunity
Opportunity Overview:
Join our education team! Volunteers are needed to help with check in and assist with weekend barnyard programs including Befriend the Barnyard and Maple in the Barnyard. Programs introduce families to our barnyard and focus on our rabbits, chickens, goats, and cows. You will share some history/knowledge of Appleton Farms, guide folks through the barnyard, and introduce people to our animals. Volunteers will be trained by shadowing a Livestock Educator, possibly working with a partner, and be given an online script.
Reports to: Engagement or Education Staff
Time Commitment Needed
Program times are:
Saturday drop-in Barnyard Programs at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm (2 volunteer shifts 930am-12pm, 12:45-3pm)
Sign up for one, a few, or all weekends!
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Greet people, register them if needed, and assist with guiding the 30-45 minute tours
- Handle animals and teach people proper techniques
- During maple season (Feb 10 - March 3rd) a maple sugaring component is added. Maple tools, history, and science is discussed and people get to witness the process and taste a maple sample
Qualifications:
- Interest in animals/farming
- Desire to and comfortability sharing information with the public
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Dress in warm clothes for the weather
