About this Opportunity

JOB PURPOSE

Tutor would be responsible for helping a child with homework and preparing for tests. They would need to keep up-to-date on the childs performance in school. Children in our programs often come to tutoring without work, so the tutor would need to be prepared for this possibility with work sheets or other ways to learn.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Schedule individual tutoring appointments with Volunteer Coordinator or parents. Small Group tutoring appointments will be scheduled with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Research or recommend textbooks, software, equipment, or other learning materials to complement tutoring.
Prepare and facilitate possible tutoring workshops, collaborative projects, or academic support sessions for small groups of students.
Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
Be a positive role model to all residents by modeling good listening, empathy, respect, good manners, and maintain excellent boundaries.
Assist in empowering residents to complete all of their responsibilities including chores and homework, never working harder than the resident.
All volunteers will contact their supervisor if unable to attend the scheduled visit. If canceling within 24 hours of your scheduled visit, contact the Volunteer Coordinator immediately.

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must consent, complete, and pass all background checks required by DFPS including: department of public safety, FBI fingerprinting, and DFPS central registry.
Must complete Volunteer Orientation.
Must have a Tuberculosis test completed with a negative screening.
