About this Opportunity

JOB PURPOSE

Mentor volunteer is responsible for being a positive role model in the life of a resident (child/youth or SPF parent) by forming healthy and consistent relationships with their mentees. Mentors should be willing to put forth effort to be involved with mentees and their lives while remaining a positive figure for them.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Be a positive role model to the resident that is being mentored. This includes using good listening, empathy, and boundary skills.
Meet with designated resident a preferred once a week, but a minimum of twice a month.
Send an email to the Volunteer Coordinator describing time spent with the resident.
Contact Volunteer Coordinator if there are any concerns with the resident.
Mentors may be allowed to take the resident off campus after completing 4 on-campus visits and receiving off campus approval from the childs CPS caseworker (if mentoring a resident in the GRO program).
All mentor visits will be scheduled with the Volunteer Coordinator

Must be 21 years of age or older.
Must consent, complete, and pass all background checks required by DFPS including: department of public safety, FBI fingerprinting, and DFPS central registry.
Must complete volunteer orientation.
Must have a Tuberculosis test completed with a negative screening.
Must complete Love and Logic or other prescribed parenting course by Cumberland.
