Camp Chimaqua "Camp Buddy" Volunteer

Camp Chimaqua is an overnight weekend camp for grieving children ages 6-12 that will be held at Gretna Glen in Lebanon, PA from Friday, May 16th to Sunday, May 18th. Camp Chimaqua is a sponsored program organized by the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss.

The focus of Camp Chimaqua is to help children explore their feelings, strengthen coping skills and increase self-confidence through fun-filled activities which help normalize children's grief responses and provide opportunities for small and large group sharing. Children who participate in Camp Chimaqua get to know others who have also lost a loved one, helping them to feel less alone in their grief journey.

Camp Buddy volunteers are paired with a bereaved child for companionship, support and supervision all weekend. Camp Buddies will participate in all scheduled activities, including meals, free time, and sleepover with their assigned camper. Throughout the weekend they will work alongside professional counselors from the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss to provide emotional support and to create a comfortable space for campers to express their feelings.

Mandatory training will be provided and all Camp Chimaqua volunteers will receive criminal background checks and child abuse screenings.
