About this Opportunity

The roles of the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) Drivers is to serve as a member of a temporary work unit on a disaster relief operation. ERV drivers deploy to large scale disasters to so support Mass Care activities. These activities typically involve either mobile feeding routes, food delivery to fixed feeding sites or delivering emergency supplies for clients.

Time Commitment:12-14 hour days for extended periods depending on distance. Time and length of commitment will vary by operation, but typical deployments are 14 days long.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Mobile Feeding Crew on a disaster relief operation.
  • Meeting disaster-caused feeding needs of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Preparing and serving meals that meet required cultural, religious, and dietary sensitivities of clients, practicing Safe Food Handling at all times.
  • Maintaining clear communication and collaboration with supervisor and peers.
  • Ensuring accuracy in all assigned tasks.
  • Providing feedback on disaster impact and community recovery, collecting essential elements of information.
  • Providing accurate reporting of feeding activity as assigned.

Qualifications:

For the driving portion of the role:
  • A valid drivers license as required by state law without conditions or restrictions limiting hours or destination of driving or requiring the presence of a fully licensed driver.
  • Approved MVR review providing a three-year history, policy outlined in the Fleet Management Program Manual
  • Completion of a road test and familiarization review conducted by an ERV qualified driver, which must be documented in the drivers VC records.
Familiarization will include:
  • identifying the location of insurance and vehicle registration cards
  • review of vehicle inspection process
  • use of fuel card
    • Completion and documentation of a Red Cross approved Defensive Driving Class
    For the Feeding Portion of the role:
    • Ability to function in a dynamic and stressful environment.

    • Ability to Lift / carry 20 lbs. and/or 50 lbs. multiple times/shift.
    • Ability to stand and or sit for two-hour periods, and walk for two miles during a shift.

    • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, extreme heat and/or humidity and/or extreme cold.
    • Ability to step up/down 18 inches and climb two or more flights of stairs.
    • Ability to speak clearly on phone and in person.
    • Ability to drive in day time and at night.
    • Ability to bend or stoop multiple times.
