About this Opportunity
As more people rely on the Red Cross for help, the need for compassionate volunteers has never been greater. From helping people effected by disasters, like home fires and floods, to supporting the collection of lifesaving blood, you can make a difference. Currently, our biggest need is for the following volunteers:
Responsibilities
- Works as part of an assigned team to respond to local disasters within two hours.
- Delivers immediate direct client assistance in accordance with Red Cross standards and procedures.
- Works with on-scene lead to assess whether additional resources/support are required and communicates those needs to DAT Leadership.
- Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region.
- Commits to being available during assigned shifts and communicate scheduling conflicts with DAT Leadership.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by DAT Leadership
Time Commitment
- Minimum of 24 hours per month oncall (3 shifts in 8-hour blocks, 6 shifts in 4-hour blocks, etc). (One Exception: Frederick County requires a volunteer to be oncall for one full week per month).
- These shifts are "oncall" meaning that during any given shift you are scheduled for, you must be ready to respond should you be called to a disaster scene, most of which are home fires.Example: In a given month, you select to be oncall for 3 shifts of 8-hour blocks. You may be called zero times, or you may be called three or more times, depending on the number of fires in the area during your shift. But you have to be ready to respond.
- Flexible, as you can choose your own shifts throughout a given month.
