About this Opportunity

The Parks Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests is seeking a campground host at Big Creek Lakes Campground for the summer of 2020. We desire a candidate who is outgoing, enthusiastic, enjoys working with and assisting the recreating public, and enjoys being outdoors. The campground includes 54 campsites, a small day-use area, and two boat launches for access to the lake. Facilities in the campground are limited to running water and vault toilets, although the campground host site has water and RV sewer hookups.

The expected duties of the campground host are to assist campers with questions and concerns, act as a liaison to pass on any concerns or issues to the Forest Service, and to maintain cleanliness of campsites and vault toilets. The season for this position is somewhat negotiable; however, the busiest season is typically from June 15th through Labor Day weekend. All cleaning supplies will be provided by the Forest Service, as well as a hand-held radio and cell phone booster for communication purposes. A $25 a day stipend will be furnished for each day served, with the expected hours being 5 days per week, 4 to 6 hours per day.

Big Creek Lakes Campground is located in Northern Colorado, just east of the Park Range of mountains and the Mount Zirkel Wilderness Area. Seven Lakes Trailhead is located adjacent to the campground and is a gateway to the wilderness for hikers and backpackers. The lake itself is a popular fishing destination and sees a fair amount of day use, especially on weekends and holidays. The campground is located at the end of Forest Service Road 600, a gravel road that is accessible from Cowdrey, CO. The campground is approximately 25 miles from the nearest paved road, Colorado Highway 125 at Cowdrey.
