Position Description
Volunteers-In-Parks are essential to the National Park Service’s mission to preserve America’s most significant cultural and natural resources. This position assists with maintaining the historic landscape at the LBJ National Historical Park by concentrating on the historic  buildings that span the past 150 years, with a special emphasis on the 1960s during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson. 

 

Duties: We are looking for a local volunteer who would like to assist the LBJ NHP staff with the care of the park's original structures and museum collections located at the LBJ Ranch and Johnson City. Duties include daily exterior inspection and cleaning around the historic structures, routine museum housekeeping, pest monitoring and environmental monitoring.


Skills: Ability to use computers is helpful as is the ability to work independently and to concentrate on/perform repetitive tasks. The volunteer must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift medium weight museum objects, properly handle and use cleaning chemicals, and participate in a mini training session on the proper handling and care of museum objects and curatorial cleaning procedures.


Required Shifts – Work days will be scheduled between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday through Sunday, at a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Volunteers will be required to pass a federal background investigation.
