About this Opportunity

The Sequoia National Forest is named for the world’s largest trees and celebrates the greatest concentration of giant sequoia groves in the world. The landscape is as spectacular as the trees with soaring granite monoliths and roaring whitewater. Elevations range from 1,000 feet in the lower canyons to peaks over 12,000 feet on the crest of the Sierra, providing panoramic views in a dramatic range of settings.

Troy Meadow Campground is located on the Kern Plateau near the crest of the Southern Sierra. At 7,800 foot elevation enjoy a beautiful Ponderosa pine forest setting overlooking a meadow and Fish Creek, a tributary to the South Fork of the Kern River reknowned for golden trout. This location is remote, 53 miles northeast of Kernville via Mtn. 99 and Sherman Pass Rd. (22S05), or 34 miles west of Hwy. 395 via Nine Mile Canyon Rd.on Sherman Pass Road, J41. Ridgecrest is the closest full-service community approximately 58 miles away. Black Rock visitor information and fire station, 3 miles north from Troy Meadow, is staffed with Forest Service personnel during the summer recreation season.

The Kern Plateau offers visitors access to the Southern Sierra, Golden Trout, and Domeland Wildernesses. The area is popular with Off Highway Vehicle enthusiasts with many miles of roads and trails maintained for these opportunities. The recreation season is usually dry with moderate daytime temperatures making the Kern Plateau a great place to escape summer heat.
