About this Opportunity

Volunteers are needed to befriend two of our equines at the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm. Our two mules, Belle and Bird, are sisters looking for companions to brush their hair and clean their coats on a weekly basis. They are also looking for someone to give them a little extra TLC and regularly take them on pleasant walks around the pastures of our site. Volunteers will need to have some prior involvement with equines, but do not need to be experts on mules. A compassionate outlook and positive attitude is the basis of what is desired in a potential volunteer.

Volunteers may be required to pass a federal background investigation.

Plains, GA is home to the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. Join the volunteer program of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site and help preserve his wholesome and down-to-earth upbringing, sense of social responsibility, and compassion towards all men and women. Our goal is to educate visitors about President Carter’s rural beginnings, his time in office, and the contributions he has made to humanity in the years following his presidency. By volunteering with the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, you will have the unique opportunity to form a bond with this outstanding community while simultaneously helping others learn how a modest young man became President of the United States.
