About this Opportunity

Social Media Interns at Stones River National Battlefield will develop platform specific, interpretive media to improve public engagement and the park's social media identity. Social Media Interns will create content about park events, volunteer opportunities, and cultural and natural resources.

  • Maintain consistent and cohesive messaging across Social Media through daily posts
  • Increase public engagement with Stones River social media pages
  • Increase social media presence by taking advantage of predetermined NPS and partner organization media campaigns

Semester or Year
Minimum of 15 hours per week

Location Where Work Will Be Performed:

Interns will work from the Stones River Visitor Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Some work may be completed at home with supervisor approval.

Duties:

  • Research, develop, and write posts for Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Maintain a content calendar to plan daily posts about Stones River history, events, and resources for Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Incorporate NPS monthly web message and social media campaigns promoted by the agency and partner organizations
  • Stay up to date on current events to ensure content is timely and appropriate
  • Stay up to date on and interact with relevant trending tags, content, and campaigns
  • Photograph Stones River events and resources to supplement digital collection for future use
  • Ensure all photos posted to social media are properly archived in Stones River digital files
  • Participate in relevant training opportunities as available
  • Follow all Department of Interior, National Park Service, and Stones River social media policies and guidelines
  • Maintain a project log of hours worked
  • Assist with visitor services, outreach, and programming to develop social media content

Interns may be assigned special projects dependent on skill, interest, and park needs. Special projects can include:

  • Developing reports using native analytics
  • Creating an original social media campaign
  • Organizing digital assets
  • Improving or developing website content
  • Developing content for the official phone app
  • Developing other web based interpretive products
  • Updating existing content to meet accessibility requirements

Requirements:

  • Intermediate knowledge of PC computer use
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Docs
  • Experience using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Willingness to perform work both inside and outside
  • Must be punctual and detail oriented
  • Serve as a professional representative of Stones River and NPS
  • Be able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Must undergo a federal background check for computer access

Preferred Experience:

  • Photo editing
  • College level coursework in marketing, communications, photography, public history, or relevant fields
  • Knowledge of Civil War and Battle of Stones River
