About this Opportunity

Volunteer photographers and videographers will document park programs and resources at Vicksburg National Military Park. Some positions will be on an as-needed basis (ex. special events) throughout the year or through individual independent work. The volunteer will go through the park at different times of day and in different seasons capturing some of the incredible beauty of our park through photography.

 

Goal/Outcome of Job:

Contribute to the success of the park by providing us with beautiful and informative photographs which can be used on social media, in brochures and other literature, and for other purposes to improve visitor experiences and to educate and inspire the public.

Length of Service (including start and end dates if applicable): Beginning minimum commitment of 2 months. (The dates listed on this posting are not firm and are only meant to represent the 2 month commitment. You may apply for this position at any time, and if accepted, start dates are flexible.) 

Work Schedule: Very flexible, but is largely needed some weekends for special events. Volunteer must commit to a minimum of 5 hours a month.

Work Location/Primary Duty Station: Report to the Visitor’s Center but work throughout the park.

Qualifications/Eligibility:

  • Must have a willingness to learn
  • Must have basic photography skills. Experience with a point and shoot camera is good!
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Elements is good!
  • Must have an interest in the park, be hardworking, and responsible.
  • Must be willing and able to attend large events.
  • Must be willing to work as part of a team with other volunteers and park staff.

Knowledge and Abilities Required: 

  • Ability to take quality professional-level photos for use in various media
  • Work creatively with subject matter
  • Communicate effectively orally and be friendly, polite, and respectful
  • Work with visitors of all ages and backgrounds
  • Be able to work independently

Duties/Responsibilites 

  • Must have basic photography skills and use own personal camera. 

  • Volunteer will sign a waiver of rights of all photos taken during volunteer time over to the National Park Service
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom,  Premiere Elements is not required 

  • For video editing, must have knowledge of 508 compliance (captioning, etc.)

  • Must have an interest in the park, be hardworking, and be responsible.

  • Must be willing and able to attend large events.

  • Must be willing to work as part of a team with other volunteers and park staff.

  • Wear NPS volunteer uniform (to be provided by the park)
