Coal Banks Recreation Area is located on the banks of the Missouri River approximately 12 miles south of Big Sandy, MT. (population 657) and approximately 36 miles northeast of Fort Benton, MT. (population 2,500). On a Montana highway map follow US Hwy 87 north from Great Falls, MT to mile marker 66.7 and take Gardiner Road east for 7 miles. Turn left on Virgelle Ferry road and travel north 1.5 miles to the campground.  Limited facilities available in Big Sandy and Fort Benton include: grocery store, gas station, full service medical center, banking services, several eateries and three motels.

Host positions are in support of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) objectives and policies.  Incumbent will be expected to support the BLM’s role, objectives and policies in providing outdoor recreation to visitors.  Coal Landing Campground and river access can be very busy, and fast-paced at times.  There is a campground with approximately 20 sites, and day use area, as well as access to the Upper Missouri River.  Campground has approximately 25 campsites, and a boat launch and take out.  Campground is on a first come first serve basis.

Hosting duties include but are not limited to: Routine bathroom cleaning and monitoring, monitoring facilities and campground for visitor security, fee compliance, cleanliness issues and potential safety hazards, light maintenance duties, routine daily trash pickup throughout the campground, routine fire-ring monitoring and cleaning,  daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground and adjacent area, reporting to staff when repairs are needed or when incidents occur, and other duties as assigned

Host duties start middle part of May and can last up until the end of October.  Schedules will be five days a week with duties needed especially on weekends, holidays and evenings, when visitation is at its highest.  Incumbent will be provided with a campsite, with access to electricity, water, and sewer.  Reimbursement is contingent on duties performed, and may be provided to offset expenses.  Incumbent will be required to pass a background check and will be accepted upon successful completion.  Hosts will be required to abide by all BLM policies, and rules and regulations.  Ability to communicate and interact with others in a friendly and helpful manner is a must in this highly visible and busy position.
