VOLUNTEER RECREATION SITE HOST

 

  • DESCRIPTION OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED
  • A.        Date of Volunteer Service

    From 4/01/2020 to 10/31/2020

    B.        Location of Service

                Bass Point Recreation Site

    C.        Duty Hours

     

    The Recreation Site Host will determine his or her own "on-duty" and "off-duty" hours.  It is expected that the Host will spend a minimum of at least four days and four nights at the recreation site each week. Volunteers will not work more than 25 hours a week, 8 hours a day, from sunup to sundown only. Volunteers are required to notify the BLM of any absence greater than two days and to provide reasonable notice of intention to leave.          

     

  • DUTIES
  •  

    A.        Visitor Services The host will be expected to serve as a visitor services/ interpretive resource person equipped to discuss and answer campground visitor inquiries concerning regional natural history, nearby points of interest, local road conditions, types of recreational activities in the area, and so forth. 

    -Wear a BLM hat or shirt while on duty

    -Maintain and update information center

    -Open the Day Use Area gate at sunrise and lock it at sunset

    -Dust picnic tables and collect litter

    -Inform visitors of local sites and recreational opportunities

    -Answer any questions visitors have or direct them to the Rock House Visitor Center for more information

    -Document any illegal activity and report back to law enforcement (such as visitors attempting to say over night, illegal dumping, vandalism, etc)

    -Monitor swimming area

    -Inform visitors that no Off Highway Vehicle driving is allowed on site

     

    B.        Site Maintenance The host will be responsible for general landscaping and cleanliness of the recreation site as well as reporting any repair and site needs to BLM staff. Host will always wear proper personal protective equipment and limit use of mechanized equipment to assigned project area.

    -Identify damage to post and cable barrier

    -Trim trees and vegetation

    -Dispose of Burro manure

    -Check/empty garbage cans

    -Collect any gathered debris/waste and transport to designated dump locations

    -Mop out/sweep and clean restroom daily

    -Check/replenish toilet paper daily

    -Clear spider webs from the restroom

    -Check vault toilet water and waste levels

    -Keep sidewalk clear and clean

    -Promptly report any mechanical issues or supply needs to BLM staff

    -Lock and unlock gates at dusk and dawn

    -Keep picnic tables and area clean.

    -Check recycle cans

     

    C.        Maintain Host Station/Personal Property The host will be responsible for compliance with all Federal and State laws regarding the licensing and insuring of their personal automobiles.  The host will be responsible for their personal belongings. All recreation site rules and regulations apply to the host

    -RV and personal equipment should be licensed, in working order, and clean.

    -Personal belongings will be kept within assigned host area.

    -Any belonging kept outside of the RV will be preapproved by BLM. 

    -A maximum of two volunteer owned vehicles may be kept on site. All vehicles and trailers must be kept in working condition. No vehicle maintenance or servicing is authorized on site.

     

    D.        Emergencies/Law Enforcement The host will have a list of phone numbers and addresses of local law enforcement personnel and regional medical emergency services for the benefit of those campground visitors who may need assistance. 

    -Contact law enforcement in case of illegal activities and noncompliance

    -Contact law enforcement in case of any hostile recreation site visitors

    -Contact emergency services when needed

     

               E.          Prohibited Host Duties

    - Impersonate or perform as law enforcement,

    - Accept payment for services from campground guest (bribe),

    - Shooting fire arms,

    - Reserve camp spots for other visitors,

    - Designate “Assistant” Camp Hosts,

    - Enforce the 14 day rule unfairly,

    - Drink non-potable water,

    - Pick up human waste.

    III.      HOST INITIATIVE

    BLM values the host's service as a volunteer.  The host is in a position to help solve many unforeseeable problems which are bound to arise.  This agency, and the visitors to this facility, will benefit greatly from the host's presence here and from whatever experience or expertise the host may bring.  BLM will endeavor to act positively upon suggestions or comments the host may have concerning the recreation site and its operation.  It is hoped that the host will also benefit from his/her stay at Lake Havasu Field Office campgrounds and areas.

  • HOST BEHAVIOR
  • The host shall project a favorable image for the BLM by adhering to the rules and regulations of the recreation site.  The host shall deal with the public in a friendly, courteous, and firm manner.  The host may work with a variety of BLM specialists.  The host is expected to maintain a cordial working relationship with BLM staff personnel.
