About this Opportunity

The Rio Puerco Field Office (RPFO) located in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a volunteer(s) to assist the Dispersed Recreation Program in providing recreational opportunities and visitor services to the public, non-profit and commercial organizations, educational institutions, tribes and interested parties on over 700,000 acres of BLM administered public lands.

The RPFO Dispersed Recreation program administers lands located in Sandoval, Bernalillo, McKinley, Cibola, Torrance and ValenciaCounties. Some of the areas that volunteer(s) would be assisting at include but no limited to the following areas:

  • Blue Water Creek Area of Critical Environmental Concern (Cibola)
  • White Ridge Bike Trails (Sandoval)
  • Ojito Wilderness (Sandoval)
  • Las Milpas (Sandoval)
  • Perea Nature Area (Sandoval)
  • San Ysidro Trials Area (Sandoval)
  • San Juan Badlands (Sandoval)
  • Casamero Ruins Area of Critical Environmental Concern (McKinley)
  • Guadalupe Ruins (Sandoval)
  • Tapia Canon Area of Critical Environmental Concern (Sandoval)
  • Crest of Montezuma (Sandoval)
  • Ball Ranch Area of Critical Environmental Concern (Sandoval)
  • Many, many more...

Volunteers selected would be working to assist the program with the following:

  • Illegal dumping reclamation, enforcement and education
  • Trail installation, maintenance and monitoring
  • Sign installation and providing sign attributes for incorporation into a sign plan
  • Installing, maintaining and downloading infrared and magnetic trail counters
  • Hiking, biking and other recreational activities to monitor trails and facilities
  • Camera installation, maintenance and monitoring
  • Many other possible opportunities are available depending on wants, needs, and personal preferences of volunteer(s)

Level of difficulty and time commitment varies and is dependent upon volunteer(s) abilities and availability.

Acreative self-motivated individual(s) who is interested in volunteering with and learning about the BLM, is encouraged to apply. Prior to entering on duty, applicants must submit and pass an agency background check.
