Job Identification
- Title: Grant Officer/Writer (Volunteer)
- Job type: Part-time, unpaid/volunteer
- Department: Fundraising and Development
- Location: Remote/Hybrid(US) - From Houston Area (with occasional in-person meetings or events, as needed)
- Schedule/Commitment:
- Flexible schedule with an average commitment of 15-20 hours per week.
- Ability to attend occasional virtual meetings and events
- May need to attend occasional grant funder events or grant interviews onsite
- Reports to: Associate Director of Development & Director of Development
Role Overview:
A Grant Writer position involves researching funding opportunities and writing compelling grant proposals to secure financial support. The role requires strong writing, research, and project management skills to develop clear and persuasive applications. While the role involves collaboration with internal teams, it is largely independent with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research funding opportunities/grants and funding sources, using …
- Match the grant opportunities to the needs, mission, vision and goals of the organization;
- Understand the funder requirements.
- Create and adapt the grant proposals to the needs of each funder;
- Revise and proofread proposals to ensure clarity and alignment with the funder priorities, as well as meeting formatting, word limit and documentation requirements;
- Develop budgets alongside with the Finance and Project teams;
- Coordinate and gather documents (attachments,letters of support, organizational information and timelines);
- Create and make sure that the plans and proposals also meet the long term plans of the organization priorities.
- Engage with stakeholders in order to obtain information and align project goals;
- Maintain a constant and open communication with funders to keep the projects running.
- Track applications, deadlines and outcomes;
- Craft reports with progress and final reports to meet funder requirements.
- Support the leadership team with additional tasks as needed to advance the Foundation’s mission.

Experience
- Healthcare background is a plus
Education:
- Graduation in the fields of Communications, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or related fields;
- Previous experience with Grant Writing and proven success in secure funding through grants.
Competencies & Skills:
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Research skills;
- Knowledge of funding opportunities in the area is highly preferred;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom).
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional and courteous demeanor with a commitment to confidentiality.
- Ability to learn and work independently
- Abilities:
Nice to have qualifications:
- Experience writing successful grant proposals for nonprofits, government agencies, or educational institutions.
- Knowledge of grant databases (e.g., Grants.gov, Foundation Directory Online).
- Familiarity with fundraising strategies and donor relations.

Physical demands:
