OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech STEM startup using open source technology, data, and community-driven innovation to reimagine governance, strengthen transparency, and empower citizen participation across Africa.
We work with citizens, policymakers, researchers, and technologists to foster open governance models that empower communities, reduce corruption, and create equitable development opportunities.
As a new startup, we are seeking passionate Advocacy leaders to shape and lead OpenGov Africa’s advocacy strategy. You will play a vital role in amplifying citizen voices, influencing policy discussions, and building grassroots and institutional support for open governance in Africa.
This role is ideal for people who thrive at the intersection of policy, communication, and community mobilization.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocacy Strategy: Develop and implement advocacy campaigns aligned with OpenGov Africa’s mission.
- Policy Influence: Build relationships with policymakers, government institutions, and civil society.
- Community Mobilization: Engage citizens and grassroots organizations in governance campaigns.
- Partnerships: Collaborate with advocacy coalitions, networks, and global movements.
- Public Representation: Serve as a spokesperson in panels, media engagements, and campaigns.
- Content Development: Create briefs, position papers, and messaging for advocacy initiatives.
Qualifications
- Background or strong interest in advocacy, civic engagement, political science, or social impact.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Strong writing skills for policy briefs, statements, and campaigns.
- Experience building networks and partnerships is a plus.
- Passion for open governance, transparency, and accountability.
Expected Requirements
- Time Commitment: Approx. 6-8 hours per week (flexible, remote).
- Commitment Period: Minimum 6 months preferred.
- Remote Work: Must have reliable internet access.
