About this Opportunity
Keeping the historic headstones in Stones River National Cemetery cleaned and readable is a year-round job. Groups of up to 20 volunteers can assist us in this endeavor by adopting one or more sections, most numbering between 400-500 headstones.
Park staff will train group leaders in proper headstone cleaning methods and provide all equipment and supplies. Group leaders will supervise field work and report accomplishments to park staff.
Duties:
- Clean all of the headstones using water, brushes and D2 Biological Solution once a year.
- Spray D2 Biological Solution on all headstones at least once a year (4-6 months after brush cleaning).
- Spot clean headstones as needed using brushes at least once per year. Can be combined with annual spray treatment.
- Complete condition survey of all headstones using smartphone app at least once every two years.
