Position: Director of Development (Volunteer – Executive Leadership Role)
Location: Hybrid (Greater Houston Area)
Reports To: Executive Director
Schedule: Flexible (15-20 hours/week)
Duration: Minimum 6-month commitment

Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and results-driven Director of Development to design, lead, and manage the Foundation’s fundraising and grant strategy. You’ll work directly with the Executive Director and Board to develop sustainable funding channels that support our expanding suite of programs and services.
As the Director of Development, the selected candidate will play a pivotal leadership role by overseeing all aspects of fundraising, grant development, and donor engagement, while also providing strategic direction for marketing and communications. This cross-functional oversight ensures alignment between messaging, outreach, and revenue generation—positioning the Foundation for long-term growth and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Execution
- Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan
- Set and meet annual giving and donor engagement goals
- Cultivate and manage relationships with major donors, corporate partners, and foundations
Grant Writing & Management
- Identify and assess potential grant opportunities
- Write compelling proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports
- Maintain a detailed grant pipeline and reporting calendar
Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Oversee donor recognition and retention strategies
- Manage CRM systems and donor communications
Leadership & Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Advise and work in tandem with the Executive Director on development priorities
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team on fundraising campaigns
- Mentor junior staff or volunteers supporting development activities
Campaigns & Events
- Design and execute annual giving and awareness campaigns
- Lead the planning of donor appreciation events and fundraising drives
Analytics & Reporting
- Track, evaluate, and present fundraising metrics
- Provide regular performance reports to the Executive Director and Board
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field
- 1–2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, or donor management
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Strategic thinker with a collaborative mindset
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or CFRE certification
- Familiarity with donor management platforms (e.g., Network for Good, Bloomerang, etc.)
- Experience leading campaigns or securing five-figure+ gifts/grants
